Premillennialists Constantly Make False Predictions About The Second Coming
Premillennialists are always making false predictions, which means they are false teachers (Deut 18:22). I asked ChatGPT about the most famous premillennialist – “Did Hal Lindsey predict when Christ would come?” Its response – “Yes … His most famous example is in his 1970 book The Late Great Planet Earth:
· Lindsey interpreted the rebirth of Israel in 1948 as a major prophetic sign.
· He connected Jesus’ statement about the generation that sees these things (Matthew 24:34) with the 1948 generation.
· He suggested that Christ’s Second Coming could occur by about 1988, based on a 40-year “generation.”
Perhaps the first premillennialist was William Miller. You may remember he predicted Christ would return on Oct 22, 1844. Many of his followers sold their homes in anticipation of the great event. When Jesus didn’t come on the appointed day, he did a recalculation and predicted Jesus would come exactly one year later. A typical MO of premillennialists. When it didn’t happen again, many of his followers were still gullible enough to continue following Miller and his teachings.
Later the Watchtower Witnesses got into the act big time. They predicted Jesus would come in 1874, then had to recalibrate to 1914, then 1915, then 1918, then 1925, then 1975. If my understanding is correct (and I am by no means a JW expert), once they missed for about the sixth time, they decided to quit making such predictions, and asserted they had been correct about 1914, that Jesus did indeed come in 1914; it was just invisible, we didn’t see Him (which would contradict Rev 1:7 “every eye shall see him”).
I am sure there have been hundreds of predictions of the date of Christ’s return by premillennialists since William Miller, and every one of them turned out to be false. If the premillennialists would just read their Bibles, all of this date predicting would cease. Jesus is going to come as a “thief in the night” (I Thess 5:2), and a thief doesn’t give you any clues about when he is coming to rob you.. Nobody knows when Jesus is coming back (Mark 13:32); the Bible doesn’t tell us.
Premillennialists are also wrong when they say Jesus’ kingdom will not begin till his second coming:
· Matt 3:2 And saying, Repent ye: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.
· Mark 9:1 And he said unto them, Verily I say unto you, That there be some of them that stand here, which shall not taste of death, till they have seen the kingdom of God come with power.
· Acts 2:30b-31a,33 … that … he would raise up Christ to sit on his throne; He seeing this before spake of the resurrection of Christ … being by the right hand of God exalted
· Dan 7:13-14 I saw … one like the Son of man came with the clouds of heaven, and came to the Ancient of days, and they brought him near before him. And there was given him … a kingdom, that all people, nations, and languages, should serve him …
· Col 1:13 Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated (transferred – ESV) us into the kingdom of his dear Son
· Rev 1:9 I John, who also am your brother, & companion … in the kingdom … of Jesus …
As a matter of fact, the Bible says the earth will be burned up when Jesus comes back:
· II Pet 3:3-4,10 … there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts, And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? … But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.
Instead of setting up the kingdom when He comes again the second time, at that time Christ shall deliver the kingdom back to God:
· I Cor 15:23-26 … they that are Christ’s at his coming. Then cometh the end, when he shall have delivered up the kingdom to God … For he must reign, till he hath put all enemies under his feet. The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death.
And when were the future events prophesied about by the book of Revelation to occur?:
· Rev 1:1 The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave unto him, to shew unto his servants things which must shortly come to pass; and he sent and signified it by his angel unto … John
· Rev 1:3 Blessed is he who reads and those who hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written in it; for the time is near.
· Rev 22:6 And he said unto me, These sayings are faithful & true: & the Lord God of the holy prophets sent his angel to shew unto his servants the things which must shortly be done.
· Rev 22:10 And he saith unto me, Seal not the sayings of the prophecy of this book: for the time is at hand.
All of the above passages are all very clear (unambiguous). I urge you to take them literally, instead of trying to make figurative any passage that contradicts the premillennial position.
