Saved by Faith Only?

Many denominations teach salvation by “faith only.” But their proof texts only say “saved by faith.” If I told you I went to a restaurant and “ate steak,” would that necessarily mean I ate “steak only” (and not a baked potato)? Do you see why those proof texts prove that faith is required, but they don’t rule out repentance and other necessary conditions stated elsewhere in God’s word?A verse in the Bible that puts those two words (“faith” and “only”) together is James 2:24, and it says “Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only.” Those who respect God and what He says will accept James 2:24, along with passages like John 3:16. All Bible verses are true. We can’t just pick the ones we like, and ignore the ones that don’t fit our preconceived view.In Genesis 2:17, God told Adam and Eve that the day they ate of the tree, “thou shalt surely die,” but in Genesis 3:4, the devil said, “Ye shall not surely die.” Do you see the similarity between what denominations teach about how to be saved and what Satan said?
